The short version

We collect customer data to run our store, ship your coffee, and show you things that are actually relevant to you. For example, if you've bought a particular coffee or viewed a particular page, we may show ads to people who took that same action, instead of blindly emailing people who couldn't care less.

  • We will never sell your personal information.
  • You can ask to see the information we have about you.
  • You can ask us to delete your information, and we will, except for records we're legally required to keep (such as tax and transaction records).

This Privacy Policy describes how The Blacker the Coffee Company LLC ("The Blacker the Coffee Co.," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you visit or make a purchase from blacker.coffee (the "Site").

Personal information we collect

Device information. When you visit the Site, we automatically collect information about your device, including your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies installed on your device. As you browse, we also collect information about the pages and products you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and how you interact with the Site. We collect this using:

  • Cookies — data files placed on your device that often include an anonymous unique identifier. To learn more about cookies and how to disable them, visit allaboutcookies.org.
  • Log files — which track actions on the Site and collect data including your IP address, browser type, internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
  • Web beacons, tags, and pixels — electronic files used to record how you browse the Site.

Order information. When you make or attempt a purchase, we collect your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, and phone number. Payments are processed by Shopify and our payment providers; we do not store your full credit card number.

Communications. If you sign up for our email list, contact us, or apply for wholesale, we collect the information you provide.

How we use your personal information

We use order information to fulfill orders, process payments, arrange shipping, manage subscriptions, and send invoices and order confirmations. We also use it to communicate with you, screen orders for potential risk or fraud, and — in line with the preferences you've shared — send you information or advertising about our products.

We use device information to help screen for risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address) and to improve the Site, for example by analyzing how customers browse and measuring the success of our marketing.

Sharing your personal information

We share personal information with service providers who help us run the store, including:

  • Shopify, which powers our online store (shopify.com/legal/privacy)
  • Payment processors, including Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay
  • Shipping carriers, to deliver your order
  • Google Analytics, to understand how customers use the Site (google.com/policies/privacy; opt out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout)
  • Shopify Messenger, to send emails you've signed up for
  • Shopify Subscriptions, to manage recurring orders

We may also share personal information to comply with applicable laws, respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other lawful request, or otherwise protect our rights.

Behavioral advertising

We use personal information to provide targeted ads and marketing we believe may interest you. Some state laws treat this as "sharing" or "targeted advertising." To learn how targeted advertising works, visit the Network Advertising Initiative at networkadvertising.org. You can opt out through:

You can also opt out of targeted advertising on our Site using the "Your Privacy Choices" link in our footer, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as an opt-out request where required by law.

Email marketing

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. We'll still send transactional messages about your orders and subscriptions.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including California, other U.S. states with privacy laws, and the European Economic Area/UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. To exercise these rights, contact us using the information below. We'll verify your request and respond within the time required by law. We won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

If you are in the EEA or UK, we process your information to fulfill contracts with you (for example, your order) or to pursue our legitimate business interests described above. Your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Data retention

We keep order information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete it, except where we're required to keep it for legal, tax, or accounting purposes.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
