French press
French press is an excellent brew method to achieve a robust and 'rustic' cup of coffee. This steeped brewing method allows coffee oils and a small amount of sediment into the final brew for a thick and rich mouthfeel.
Directions for a 34oz French Press
Step 1: Grind
On a coarse setting, grind 60 grams of coffee (5 heaping tablespoons). Pour the coffee grounds in the carafe.
Step 2: Water
Rapidly add near-boiling water to fill. Stir the grounds and hot water quickly, just enough to separate any clumps.
TIP: Agitating saturated grounds can make your coffee bitter, so get your spoon out of there as quick as you can.
Step 3: Brew
Place the plunger into the carafe and lower until it pushes the grounds just beneath the surface of the water. Steep grounds for 3-5 minutes.
Step 4: DON'T PLUNGE!
Without moving the plunger, pour the coffee out of the French Press, through the plunger, and into your favorite cup.
TIP: Don't plunge the coffee or you'll release the bitterness in the saturated plant fibers. Let the plunger strain out the grounds for you.
